What happens after the free course ends
Should you wish to continue, you will be tested / graded on the content you have been shown on the course, the charge is £10 which includes your new Belt and certificate, after this you move into the main class .
Is there a club membership fee and what kit is needed when we move into the main class.
No we don’t believe in club membership fees , you will need a association licence and this is your yearly insurance to train the cost is £17.00 , you become a member of the CMAA and get a grading booklet , you will also need a Karate GI " Suit" , these are available at all good sports shops , or through us , all we ask is it's plain white ,there is a example of one on this site , cost vary see our prices page for our prices .
When in the main class will i be thrown to the lions and get a hard time from the established club members
No, we treat each student as a individual , we are well aware that no two people are alike , you will progress at a rate you feel is good for you with a little pushing from us , if needed we will put one of our instructors with you for some one to one training in the main class , as for the senior club members , we at KSD are a non egotistical club we don’t suffer bully’s ,we run our club and every member is part of the KSD Family.
What are the grading’s and do i have to do them
Grading is a way of testing you on the content you have learnt , the period to start is around every 3 months based on training twice a week , if you pass you will receive your next belt ,this is the path to Black Belt, we do not insist on you doing these after the first one ,the choice is yours .
What benefit’s will i get from training / learning Karate at KSD
Confidence , Fitness , Self protection/ defence , Discipline , Respect , traditional karate not to be mistaken with sport karate taught elsewhere locally , we have a great bunch of guys and we have a great social side to the club , you have to remember the values above can be gained but only if you put the time and effort into your training , you get out of karate what you put into it , just like anything in life .
Do you do anything as a club or do you just train at your location and do you have a competition side to the club
No we get out and about when the right opportunity comes our way , we have just returned from a trip to Barcelona and a trip to Germany is on the cards + many more ,recently we have trained with the following Japanese Karate masters Fumio Demura , Akiro Sato & Keiji Tomiyama , all come from the direct source of our style Shito-Ryu Shukokai , as for Compertition " Sport Karate" , as mentioned we are a traditional club teaching what works in the real word , but yes we do offer a competition side and we have a squad that’s preparing for the Shido Ryu Shukokai National championships .
How do you feel about us students cross training
We don’t have a issue with it , we know , No one person has all the answers so we encourage this if it's what you want ,sadly most clubs say your not allowed, but you can licence and train with as many clubs as you like after all the martial arts journey your on is yours and yours alone but, when a member of our association " CMAA" the oppertunity to cross train is there if your licenced, you can train with any club in the association in any style .

Ive studied Karate in the past and am thinking about restarting do i have to start again as a while belt or may i ware my old Grade.
We have options available to all re starters , if you can prove your past in terms of old licences or grade certs ,your able to ware your old grade our association states no one has the right to strip your past grade of you , however you would not be able to progress beyond your current grade till you have been grade assesed upto your current grade in our own syllabus , once you have met that requirement then you will start working toward your next grade , grade assesments are every 3 months and a min of 21 lessons upto 4th Kyu , the requirements above this grade will be spoke about in the Dojo, and the exact content of each assesment will again be spoke about in the Dojo.
I study Karate with another club but am frustrated and am considering training elsewhere or quiting , would i be able to train at KSD .
Indeed , we welcome everyone no matter what club they have come from , KSD will never slag other clubs off if you do chose us, we respect where you have come from , you will have to buy a new Association licence costing £17 , and we would require proof of your training at the other club .
